Adagio acts were a cross between dance and acrobatics where
the women were thrown, spun and swung around by the men. The
most famous act was by the Ganjou Brothers and Juanita, called
Romance in Porcelain. They performed from the 1930s
until they disbanded in 1956 and were among the highest paid
variety acts of the 1940s. Many similar acrobatic throws and
spins can now be seen in dance and ice skating routines.
Here are some more dance acts from the music halls.
