I was the darling of the London stage in the 1830s. Famed for my burlesques and adored for my legs, my exploits (though mostly innocent, I assure you) led to scandalous accusations in the press. I excelled in breeches parts, operatic singing and dramatic dancing.
I was also the first woman actor-manager in London – yes, I managed the Royal Olympic Theatre and turned it into the most fashionable of the London theatres …… Did you know that it was at my theatre that we pioneered the first stage curtains to open sideways. We also led the way in stage design with the box set… But enough about me…
